In this feature series, I briefly introduce some fabulous entrepreneurial ladies – a fun snapshot of the lady behind the business.
Ekta Tejwani of MUMZ
Describe your business in 25 words or less
A networking App like #Tinder4Moms for parents to be able to
meet others based on area, kids age, common interests and favourite times to meet.
Where did you live and what did you work at before you came to Hong Kong?
I was born in Kuwait but I have lived majorly in India.
Before coming to HongKong, I worked as a Lead Software Engineer after my B.Tech. I also did my MBA post marriage.
Do you remember the first time you made a sale?
I clearly remember my first Event after setting up the Facebook
It was a Casual Coffee Evening in the heart of Kennedy Town. 25 Moms turned up. Moms to new babies, young kids, toddlers. It was a lovely bright afternoon.
As a home business, where’s the weirdest place you’ve taken a work call?
Would the labour room qualify as one??
Well, when a girls gotta work, she’s gotta work!
What would you say is the worst idea you’ve ever had when it comes to your business?
Thinking that it doesn’t make a difference. it doesn’t have an impact. It doesn’t help anyone.
The sole aim was building a community, where moms come together for kids activities, seminars, talks, work life integration, picnics, coffee meet-ups. When a Mum thanks me for setting up such a platform, that’s when it reinforces the motivation in me to take it forward.
Make it Big!
What do your kids think about their Mom being an entrepreneur?
My younger one is too young ( 6months) to understand my absence.
The older one, who is 3+ years, doesn’t like me going out for long hours.
But he does end up saying to me when I come back.”Where were you mumma? Did you have a meeting? I am very proud of you. You know everything” .
It fills my heart with love. I am lucky – working for MUMZ also allows me to spend time with and organise things for my kids too.
Tell us one interesting thing about you that most people may not know.
I am a trained dancer and I love making mocktails. ( Doesn’t guarantee my husband likes them all………)
What would be your karaoke song of choice?
“Wise men say”or “Hallelujah”
When I met Ekta I was immediately struck by how much she loves what she is doing.
Her App allows Mums know that they are not on their journey alone, we are all in it together. She is a Mum, she gets it.
So ladies, if Ekta can do it, so can you. If you have always wanted to run your own business – Go for It, take that next step!
Now that I am living back in Ireland, I am looking for ladies living in Ireland to feature. If you would like to be a featured Momtrepreneur, then please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
