Happy Galentines Day!

What is Galentines Day I hear you ask?

The wonderful Amy Poehler’s character, Lesley Knope in the very funny “Parks and Recreation” coined the phrase Galentines Day. So, let’s hear Lesley explain it:

Careers, relationships, babies and travels can separate friends and old valued friendships can drift and be neglected. But it’s important ladies, so very important, to not neglect these friendships and to make time to catch up and to be there for each other.

Robert Frost, one of my favourite poets, wrote a beautiful poem about friendship:

A Time to Talk

When a friend calls to me from the road

And slows his horse to a meaning walk,

I don’t stand still and look around

On all the hills I haven’t hoed,

And shout from where I am, What is it?

No, not as there is a time to talk.

I thrust my hoe in the mellow ground,

Blade-end up and five feet tall,

And plod: I go up to the stone wall

For a friendly visit.

– Robert Frost

Girls friendships are full of loyalty, kindness, compassion, support and laughter.

And, we all have that ONE friend – you know, the one you meet for lunch and you end up getting home at 2.00 in the morning, missing a shoe….. Tag that friend and give her a giggle.

Tonight. I am meeting up with some of my old gal pals. With our busy lives, these days we don’t see each other very often. But tonight, we will catch up – there won’t be gift bags with mosaic portraits of us made from bottle tops (sorry Lesley!) but we will share a few moans, a lot of giggles and one, or two, or three of these:

So ladies, today, embrace your inner Spice Girl (Quote: “Friendship Never Ends”) and reach out and wish those special ladies in your lives a “Happy Galantines Day”.
