Day 6: Diary of a Mum Trying to Keep it Together

I thought that Leo’s address was well done last night – words of encouragement mixed with reality. The “calm before the storm, before the surge” is worrying but maybe It gives a wake up call to those not taking social distancing seriously……

Squabble Scale: 4

Just the one squabble of note today.

Before we started “school” this morning, I left the girls downstairs for a quick play while I went for a shower.

My last words to them, before I went upstairs was “I’ll be 5 minutes in the shower (typical Mum shower!) and Daddy is on a work call in his office so no fighting and shouting while I’m upstairs.

You can guess what happened as soon as I turned on the water in the shower……..

Relationship Status

Himself had a very busy work day, locked up in our home office (or so he says anyway……) and I was more than kept busy with the kids so it feels like we hardly saw each other today.

Toilet Roll Update

I wasn’t in any shops today so I’ve no update to report on this.

I have all my fingers crossed that these (mostly) dry days continue……….

The official Day 1 of Homeschool and what a busy day it was!

9.00 to 1.00 was our school hours (with breaktime included of course for a snack and a run around the garden).

My youngest girl is in senior infants and the other is in 3rd class. I found it hard to work with both of them, trying to get one of them working independently on something so that I could work with the other on something else. Hopefully, this gets easier with some more forward planning on my part!

Our school is great in that they are emailing us daily work or setting up assignments on Google Classroom to do. We then upload the kids completed work onto SeeSaw. It certainly will make the homeschooling process easier in that I won’t have to come up with lots of new ideas myself every day.

Fun Activities

After school was out for the day, we hit St. Enda’s Park for some air and exercise.

So lovely to see Spring arriving to lift our spirits!

Highpoint of the Day

During “school” today, it was nice to get to see first hand what my girls are working on and to share their learning with them.

I’m sure we are all used to getting “nothing” or “I don’t remember” when we ask them what they did in school. Well, now we know!

Lowpoint of the Day

My 6 year old thought she spotted her friend in the park and even though she knew she couldn’t go over to her, she just wanted to see her friend and wave at her.

Anyway, it turned out not to be her friend – the disappointment on her face….. My two girls love playing together (and they are so lucky to have each other, the only children out there must be desperate for a kid to play with….) but they are both really missing their friends.

Kid’s Books

Ros told me that World Book Online have just made their collection of over 3,000 ebooks and audiobooks available for free for children to access at home. They have books suitable for all ages. Click on the following link to access them.
From Kim – time capsule

Time Capsule

Kim sent this in – what a great idea!

There is precious little “Me Time” at the moment but it’s so important that we carve out a little time for ourselves, for the sake of our health and sanity.

Corena sent me the below link -some galleries and museums are offering virtual online tours:

Jane told me that Lucy Wyndham Read shares lots of work outs on You Tube:

I love doing the Irish Times crossword online (you need to subscribe) – keeps my brain ticking over…..If you are not a subscriber, I’m sure there are probably plenty of free online options out there.

Cian Healy tweeted that, in response to COVID19 have launched a free meditation and mindfulness link:

It could be a long road ladies, look after yourselves xx

Finally, a little giggle to end the day:

Keep sharing ladies -I’m looking for jokes, stories of your good and bad days, your moans and frustrations, your funny moments, positive messages, ideas for kids activities, suggested kids online learning resources…….. I want to hear it all – the good, the bad and the ugly!

Also, if your kids have pictures of their drawings, art and craft creations, lego builds, baked treats or anything that they would like to share then just send them into me to post.

And, let’s not forget about us Mums – any online activities and resources for US that you come across, then please share too!

You can contact me on email at or through Instagram or Facebook Messenger.
