Day 9: Diary of a Mum Trying to Keep it Together

Squabble Scale: 6

A solid 6 again today – we didn’t leave the house yesterday or this morning and you could tell from the behaviour…………

After a trip to the park, things improved (it’s like taking dogs for a run to calm them down!).

Relationship Status

Himself insisted that we got take away for dinner tonight to give me a night off cooking (cooking is not his strength…..) so he’s in the good books!

Toilet Roll Status Update

Plenty of toilet rolls in our local Tesco Extra this morning – no need for panic.

Another dry day allowing us to get out for some air and exercise. Himself says I’m going to jinx the weather by keeping talking about it!

Home School

Saturday – woohoo schools out. It’s a relief to have a break from the homeschooling today.

Now I just had to catch up on the housework, laundry and ironing – good times!

Fun Activities

They were doing timed laps of the park again today:

I remember, as a kid, my sister getting me do things for her by telling me that she’d time me. It also got me to stop bugging her., of course Well, it’s a lot like that – I’ll just sit here on the park bench for a little rest while I time you doing laps…….

Low-point of the Day

After finishing cleaning the house, I finally went for a shower. In dire need of 10 mins to myself (himself had gone to the shops), I warned them within an inch of their lives that there was to be no fighting, shouting or screaming while I was in the shower.

About 5 minutes into my precious 10 minutes of alone time there is a bang on the door followed by “Mummy, Mummy!”. Dripping wet, I quickly open the door to see what the emergency is. My 6 year old is standing there with a pen and paper “How do you spell ENTER?” Her emergency was that she was writing a “Do Not Enter” sign for her bedroom door (for her sister’s benefit). Ggggggrrrrrrr…….

Highpoint of the Day

Both my kids slept (IN THEIR OWN BEDS) t until 7.00 a.m. – if you knew my 6 year old, that’s a win!

Usually, there’s at least one kid in our bed from anytime from midnight on and then sleep resembles something more like this:

I gave them the iPads and they took them back to bed with them and I went back to sleep until 9.00 a.m. – score!

RTE are going to run an hour of “school tv” every day to help parents out:

Dublin Zoo may be closed but they are creating free online activity sheets for kids, related to the animals of the zoo:

I love this way of dealing with the constant requests for snacks! Thanks for forwarding to me Corena.

For us Mums

If you like to bake, you’ll find lots of yummy recipes here:

How great is this!

Finally, a little giggle to end the day:

Keep sharing ladies – I’m looking for jokes, stories of your good and bad days, your moans and frustrations, your funny moments, positive messages, ideas for kids activities, suggested kids online learning resources…….. I want to hear it all – the good, the bad and the ugly!

Also, if your kids have pictures of their drawings, art and craft creations, lego builds, baked treats or anything that they would like to share then just send them into me to post.

And, let’s not forget about us Mums – any online activities and resources for US that you come across, then please share too!

You can contact me on email at or through Instagram or Facebook Messenger.
