Day 13: Diary of a Mum Trying to Keep it Together

Squabble Scale: 6

Just a small example from today to give you the general flavour:

6 Year Old : Mummy! She (her older sister) called me a dumb dumb poo-poo head”

Me: “Do YOU think you’re a dumb, dumb poo-poo head”

6 Year Old: “No”

Me: “Well, no need to worry about what she saId then – YOU know you’re not.”

(I was tempted to tell my 6 year old to give her older sister the classic reply “I know you are but what am I?” but refrained as (a) it probably wouldn’t have been the best parenting move but, more importantly, (b) it would have kept the squabble going longer…..

Relationship Status

Thumbs Up Comment: “I’ll be finished work around 4.00 today so I can take the girls out for a cycle then” – Score!

Thumbs Down Comment: “Can you try and keep the noise down, I’m trying to work” – que grumble message to friend, who had a similar story.

Toilet Roll Status Update

No update to report today as I wasn’t in any shops.

Continuing to not talk about it (glorious!), in the hopes of not jinxing it!

Home School

Went surprisingly well today – thank goodness for Reading Eggs and Athletics apps. My 9 year old responds far better to them than she does to my teaching!

My 6 year old had great fun doing her “astear” where she had to set up a cafe, including writing a menu.

While it’s the nearest to getting to go out for coffee I’m getting these days, I was scandalised by her prices – 5 euro for a coffee. Outrageous!

Fun Activities

They spent an hour in the garden laughing their heads off playing some game that basically, as far as I could tell, involved hitting each other with balloons.

But, hey, no complaint from me – they were happy and I got to sit down and actually eat my lunch by myself . Score again!

Highpoint of the Day

It has to be the weather – everything really is better when the sun is shining.

Lowpoint of the Day

Because I’m so hands on busy with the kids the whole day, I don’t have the time I want to, to focus on my blog. I’ve ideas that I want to develop and I’m finding it very frustrating that I just can’t find the time to spend on it.

Usually, to me, working on my Blog is my outlet and I’m not getting that these days – at the moment, it’s all about just getting through the day.

Books, Books, Books

Karen told me about how Amazon have canceled the subscription of books and audio stories for children and students of all ages. As long as schools are closed, kids everywhere can instantly stream an incredible collection of stories, including titles across six different languages

T.V. For The Mums:

RTE have announced that they are going to run a host of classic Irish series (no, not Wanderley Wagon….), like Love Hate and Derry Girls.

Remember this scene from Derry Girls – I remember us pausing the scene and actually reading what was written on the blackboard. Some of the “differences” were hilarious. If you are going to be watching this series for the first time, you’re in for a treat!

Finally, a little giggle to end the day.

This is, probably the majority of us, teaching Irish to our kids:

Also, if your kids have pictures of their drawings, art and craft creations, lego builds, baked treats or anything that they would like to share then just send them into me to post.
